Privacy Policy
Last Updated: January 15, 2025
At node-drift, we believe transparent financial management starts with transparent data practices. This policy explains how we handle your information when you use our activity-based budgeting platform.
We're based in Vietnam and operate under Vietnamese data protection laws. But honestly, we'd treat your data carefully regardless of what the law required. Your financial information deserves respect.
What Information We Collect
Running a budgeting platform means we need certain information to make the service work. Here's what we gather and why.
Account Information
When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and the password you create. We also need your business or organizational details if you're setting up team budgets. Phone numbers are optional but helpful if you want SMS alerts about budget thresholds.
Financial Data
The whole point of node-drift is activity-based budgeting, so we collect the financial data you input. This includes budget categories, expense records, activity allocations, and any transaction details you choose to track. We also store your budget templates and forecasting models.
Usage Information
We track how you interact with the platform. Which features you use most, where you spend time, what reports you generate. This helps us understand what's working and what needs improvement. We also collect device information, browser type, and IP addresses for security purposes.
We never access your banking credentials or connect directly to your bank accounts. All financial data you see in node-drift is information you've manually entered or imported through secure file uploads.
How We Use Your Information
Your data serves specific purposes. We're not in the business of selling information or cluttering your inbox with promotions.
Providing the core budgeting service including calculations, reports, and forecasting tools
Sending important notifications about your account, such as budget alerts you've configured or security notices
Improving our platform based on how people actually use it, not how we imagine they might
Responding to your support requests and troubleshooting technical issues
Complying with Vietnamese accounting and business regulations that apply to financial software
Preventing fraud and maintaining platform security through monitoring of suspicious activity patterns
We occasionally send educational content about budgeting practices or major platform updates. You can opt out of these anytime. We never sell your email to third parties or share your financial data for marketing purposes.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
We're selective about who sees your information. Most of the time, it stays within our secure systems.
Service Providers
We work with hosting providers, email services, and analytics tools that help keep node-drift running. These companies only access the minimum data needed to perform their specific functions. They're bound by confidentiality agreements and can't use your information for their own purposes.
Legal Requirements
Vietnamese law sometimes requires us to disclose information. This typically happens in response to valid legal processes from authorities or when necessary to protect rights and safety. We'll notify you about such requests unless legally prohibited from doing so.
Business Transfers
If node-drift is acquired or merged with another company, your information would transfer as part of that transaction. We'd notify users beforehand and ensure the new owner maintains comparable privacy protections.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to advertisers, data brokers, or marketing companies. Period.
Data Security and Protection
Financial information requires serious security. Here's what we do to protect your data.
All data transmission uses TLS encryption, the same standard banks employ
Financial information is encrypted at rest in our databases using AES-256 encryption
Access to user data is restricted to essential personnel who need it for support or maintenance
We maintain regular security audits and vulnerability assessments of our systems
Multi-factor authentication is available and recommended for all accounts
Automated backups ensure data recovery capability in case of system failures
That said, no system is completely invulnerable. We employ industry-standard protections, but you should also use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication when available.
Your Rights and Controls
You maintain control over your information. Vietnamese data protection regulations give you several rights regarding your personal data.
Access and Portability
You can download your data anytime through your account settings. This includes all budget information, transaction records, and reports you've created. The export comes in standard formats you can use with other software.
Correction and Updates
Found an error? You can edit your account information and financial data directly through the platform. For issues you can't resolve yourself, contact our support team at contact@node-drift.com.
Deletion
You can request complete account deletion, which removes your personal information and financial data from our active systems within 30 days. We retain some records for legal compliance purposes, typically accounting requirements that mandate retention for five years in Vietnam.
Communication Preferences
Adjust your notification settings to control what emails you receive. Essential security and service notices can't be disabled, but marketing and educational content is always optional.
Data Retention
We keep your information as long as your account is active. After account closure, most data is deleted within 30 days.
Some information must be retained longer due to Vietnamese accounting regulations. Financial transaction records may be kept for up to seven years to comply with tax and business documentation requirements. This retained data is stored securely with restricted access.
Anonymized usage statistics that can't identify individual users may be retained indefinitely for research and platform improvement purposes.
Cookies and Tracking
node-drift uses cookies to maintain your session and remember your preferences. These are necessary for the platform to function properly.
We also use analytics cookies to understand how people use the service. These help us identify which features are valuable and which need improvement. You can disable analytics cookies through your browser settings without affecting core functionality.
We don't use advertising cookies or third-party tracking for marketing purposes. The only third-party cookies present come from our hosting infrastructure and analytics provider.
International Data Transfers
Your data is primarily stored on servers located in Vietnam. Some service providers we use maintain infrastructure in other countries, which means your information might be processed outside Vietnam.
When data transfers occur, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place through standard contractual clauses and verification that recipient countries maintain adequate data protection standards.
Children's Privacy
node-drift is designed for business and organizational budgeting. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16 years old. If we discover we've inadvertently collected data from someone under 16, we'll delete it promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We update this privacy policy occasionally as our practices evolve or regulations change. Significant changes will be announced through email and a prominent notice on the platform.
Continued use of node-drift after changes become effective means you accept the updated policy. If you disagree with changes, you can close your account before they take effect.
